  1. Turia Garden (Jardín del Túria)

Inaugurated: 1986.

The Turia Garden in Valencia is one of the biggest city parks in Spain. It is a huge garden of more than 10 kilometers, which goes through the city with different recreational and sports facilities. In addition, it has a lot of green places with lawns and tables ideal for making picnics. This park is built on the old riverbed of Turia, which was diverted to stop the continual floodings that the city suffered. The Turia Gaden has 18 bridges and they trace long centuries of history. The old riverbed borders both banks with some of the main museums and monuments of the city. Various urban planners and landscapers created the various sections of the park, creating a unique route filled with palm, olive, pine, and orange trees, fountains, aromatic plants, and ponds, as well as sports courts, playgrounds, surrounded by rose bushes and a great number of other flowers.

  1. Cabecera Park (Parque de Cabecera)

Inaugurated: 2004.

This large metropolitan park receives its name because it is located at the head (“cabecera” in Spanish) of the Turia Garden at the entrance to Valencia. Cabecera Park is divided into different areas: the Ribera Forest, the Mirador Platform, the Bioparc, and the Amusement Park. The Ribera Forest (Bosque de la Ribera) crosses a large area where you can go cycling, take a pleasant walk, practice running, enjoy playgrounds with the little ones, or make a picnic. The Mirador Platform is the only elevated area of the park. There you can enjoy a panoramic view of the whole garden and contemplate beautiful sunsets. On one of the slopes of the hill, there is an amphitheater that hosts multiple performances. If you want to take a boat or catamaran ride, you just have to rent a boat, right next to this amphitheater.

  1. Royal Gardens (Jardines del Real, Jardín de Viveros)

Inaugurated: 1912.

The historical status of this park, its remarkable and careful gardening, and the abundance of sculptural or other monuments, make it one of the green hearts of the city of Valencia. The gardens are also known as Los Viveros, and owe their name to the fact that since 1560 they were used as tree nurseries. In 1912 they became a wonderful municipal park, convenient for everyone. Valencia Royal Gardens also have children’s playgrounds that have swings, slides, and even a small road equipped for the little ones, so that they can learn traffic signs in a playful way. There is a skating rink so that small ones can learn their first steps on skates in one of the most beautiful Spanish parks. And, of course, there is a lot of space for making picnics.
